WOONSOCKET — A city firefighter’s response to a life-threatening emergency while off-duty in another community won him the praise of his department supervisors and Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt on Monday.

Firefighter Daniel Vallejo had been at T.F. Green Airport on Sept. 5 with family members when he assisted a man found unconscious due to a possible overdose.

Leo D. Messier, chief of the Airport Police Department, wrote Fire Chief Paul Shatraw a letter commending Vallejo’s actions that day.

“I would like to inform you of the gallant life saving measures that a member of the Woonsocket Fire Department, Firefighter Daniel Vallejo performed for an overdose victim here at T.F. Green Airport on Sept. 5, 2015.”
